Last year, I set some high expectations for myself, envisioning what I needed to achieve by year’s end. In hindsight, those expectations were unrealistic, and I ultimately fell short.
This year, I’m taking a different approach.
I’ve chosen a guiding word for 2025: Curiosity.
Here are a few reasons why:
Curiosity eases the pressure of commitment.
When you view a goal as a massive commitment, it’s easy to become fixated on the idea of being the best.
Last year felt so serious as I tried to force things to work when I should have allowed them to unfold naturally.
Well at least that what happened to me. I couldn’t picture another direction. My heart was set on one path even if it killed me (metaphorically). And this lead me down the sunk cost fallacy and it was hard for me to pivot.
Curiosity brings a lighthearted approach.
It’s more fun. And I felt so serious last year, trying to make something work when I should of just let it unfold naturally. I don’t think people should ourselves so seriously. I think I should enjoy the process of anything I do.
Because if I take myself too seriously, it can lead to the starving artist mentality, where I starved myself by the limitations of my work.
Curiosity keeps us open-minded.
If I lead with curiosity, it is also hard not to be rigid. It allows you to be flexible on the path that you choose. And it is easier to pivot because you didn’t place so much importance to the path.
Over the next 30 days, I plan to write about my journey as a self-published author, insights into the publishing industry, and any new books or works that inspire me.
Join me on this adventure!
Feel free to ask questions along the way—I’m excited to embrace curiosity in the new year!
